See Details1. Risks of ratchet belts soaked in water
Rust of metal parts: Metal parts such as ratchets, pawls, and springs are prone to oxidation and rust when exposed to water, causing jamming or breakage.
Deterioration of webbing fibers: Nylon/polyester webbing loses 20% to 40% strength after absorbing water, and repeated swelling and shrinkage will damage the fiber structure.
Lubrication failure: The internal grease is washed away by water, increasing friction loss, which can easily cause poor operation or accidental loosening.
2. Three-step resurrection technique: key operations to extend life
Step 1: Deep disassembly and cleaning
Use an Allen wrench to disassemble the components and separate the ratchet mechanism and webbing. Focus on checking whether the pawl spring is rusted and deformed, and whether there are pits on the gear meshing surface. You can soak the rusted parts in white vinegar for 10 minutes, then brush them lightly with a wire brush, and finally rinse them with anhydrous ethanol to clean the surface rust stains.
Step 2: Functional repair
Apply molybdenum disulfide high-temperature grease (temperature resistance 260℃) to the gear groove, and cover 80% of the tooth surface.
Inject silicone-based lubricating spray into the spring cavity to prevent moisture and sticking. When reinforcing the webbing, cut off the burrs, flame sinter the cut to prevent derailment, and finally observe whether the key parts have been reinforced.
Step 3: Dynamic test
First, quickly pull the webbing 10 times to check whether the pawl rebounds crisply (abnormal sound indicates spring fatigue). Then perform a load test to observe the elongation of the webbing. If the elongation is ≤5% and there is no permanent deformation, it is qualified. If the elongation is >10% or there is a creaking sound, it must be stopped immediately.
