See DetailsVersatility, reliability, and ease of use are crucial when securing cargo, equipment, or lashing items to a truck or van. When using an E-Track ratchet tie down to secure truck cargo, it's crucial to combine the design features of the E-Track with the proper handling of the ratchet tie down to ensure the cargo remains secure during transport.
1. Preparation before fixing
Check tools and accessories
E-track tie-down kit: includes ratchet straps (with hooks), E-track sliders (or fixing rings).
E-track system: confirm that E-tracks (metal tracks with oval grooves) have been installed on both sides or the bottom of the truck bed.
Auxiliary tools: gloves, tension tester (optional).
Assess cargo
Weight and size: select straps with sufficient strength (such as 1.5 tons, 3 tons, etc.).
Cargo shape: irregular cargo requires anti-slip pads or edge protection.
2. Fixing steps
(1). Install E-track sliders (fixing rings)
Insert the hook end of the slider into the oval groove of the E-track and slide it horizontally to the target position (as shown in the figure).
Make sure the slider is locked on the track (some models need to be rotated 90° to lock).
(2). Connect the ratchet strap
Hook end: The hook at one end of the strap is buckled into the slider fixing ring.
Free end: The hook at the other end goes around the cargo and buckles into the slider of the opposite E-track (or another position on the same track). Direction suggestion: The contact surface between the strap and the cargo should be at an angle of 45°~60° as much as possible to enhance lateral stability.
(3) Tighten the strap
Pull out the free end of the strap, pass it through the ratchet device and leave enough length. Repeatedly turn the ratchet handle to gradually tighten the strap until the cargo does not shake significantly. Note: Avoid over-tightening to cause deformation of the cargo or breakage of the strap (refer to the tension value). (4) Locking and inspection After tightening, press the ratchet safety lock to prevent accidental loosening. Shake the cargo to test the stability. If the strap is not loose and the hook is not shifted, it is qualified.
3. Key Considerations
Strap Layout
Distribute straps symmetrically to balance loads (e.g., two straps at the front and two straps at the back).
For long cargo, add center straps to prevent mid-section shifting.
Hook Safety
The hook must be fully engaged with the slider retaining ring to prevent unhooking.
Do not attach the hook directly to the E-track slot (it must be connected via the slider).
Material Protection
Use corner guards or rubber pads on sharp edges to prevent cuts on the straps.
Use rust-resistant hooks and waterproof straps for humid environments.
Check the strap tension every 2-3 hours during transport.
4. Common Errors and Solutions
Strap slippage: Use textured straps or increase the number of straps.
Ratchet stuck: Loosen slightly, then tap the handle gently to clear any debris from the teeth.
Slider shifting: Check the slider locking mechanism for damage.
